CAREER INTERNSHIP COORDINATOR
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in counseling preferred; Master’s level student accepted
- Knowledge of wide-array of college and career resources
- Experience with career education and guidance activities
- Prefer background similar to that of project participants
- Ability to relate to low-income and first-generation populations from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds
- Knowledgeable of community and area college resources
- Demonstrated ability to assist participants in the decision-making and problem-solving process
- Expertise in facilitating individual and small group research and learning experiences
JOB SUMMARY:
The Career Internship Coordinator is responsible to the Project Director for providing to project participants a variety of activities/venues in an effort to assist them in career research and decision-making.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To implement a career education project that includes career instruction and exploration
- To network campus/community resources in order to provide experiential learning in careers through job shadowing, volunteerism and community-service activities
- To assist participants in the development of personal qualities that will prepare them to be competitive in the job market—i.e., personal appearance, punctuality, courtesies of expression, responsibility, confidentiality, etc.
- To implement career activities such that the project is positively represented to the campus and community publics
- To identify career mentors in the University and area communities who can provide appropriate career leadership to low-income, first-generation teens
- To assist participants in the postsecondary entry process
- To arrange for college visits for individual participants and groups of project participants
- To safely transport participants in University vehicles
- To develop a career library of materials appropriate for the needs of project participants
- To provide appropriate documentation of the career search of project participants
