SUMMER RESIDENTIAL COORDINATOR
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or two years of successful undergraduate work coupled with work experience in fields related to project objectives
- Experience with high school students and with staff supervision
- Prefer background similar to that of project participants
- Ability to relate to low-income and first-generation populations from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds
- Above average maturity, intelligence and self‑discipline; Willingness to work long hours
- Ability to grasp administrative policy and provide for the concerns of participants, parents, target schools and a variety of publics
- Ability to confront and resolve conflictive situations
JOB SUMMARY: The Residential Coordinator is a full‑time position responsible to the Project Director for the coordination/supervision of a residence hall staff who are responsible for high school participants. The position entails long and inordinate hours and requires that the Residential Coordinator live in the residence hall.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administrative Liaison:
- To function as liaison between administration and hall staff
- To assess any hall problem and act in compliance with project guidelines
- To work in conjunction with Truman Residential Living staff for the effective management and maintenance of the residence hall
- To attend weekly faculty meetings as a communication link for hall staff
- To provide end‑of‑session records in the form of a Hall Coordinator’s Handbook that will serve as an orientation tool for future personnel
- Personnel Management:
- To provide for the orientation and evaluation (formative and summative) of hall staff
- To provide support for hall staff in the fulfillment of job responsibilities, recognizing staff member’s individual expectations and needs
- To be knowledgeable of and help facilitate productive staff/student relationships
- To provide leadership to hall staff as they establish and comply with project policy
- To lead hall staff to hold participants in compliance with program guidelines
- To implement appropriate in‑service sessions
- To develop work schedules remaining sensitive to stress levels and need for off‑duty tim
- To provide leadership in unusual disciplinary, conflictive and emergency situations
- Participant Management:
- To create a nurturing environment for participants’ social/emotional/academic development
- To safely transport participants in University vehicles
- To ensure a system of communication within the residence hall where participant concerns are communicated, recognized and dealt with
- To maintain complete and accurate records of hall disciplinary actions so participants are dealt with consistently, fairly and in line with project policy
